Shiatsu is a Japanese word which means finger pressure. It describes a form of massage which is based on the circulation of energy, and is also referred to as acupressure or acupuncture without needles.
Shiatsu relaxes the mind and body, restores and balances energy, eases tension and stiffness, improves breathing, improves posture, improves circulation and over all well-being.
Too much or too little energy in the meridians causes discomfort and illness. Health is therefore a state in which energy flows free and steady much like a regular yoga practitioner will experience.
Shiatsu requires no special tools, massage table or oils, and the recipient remains clothed. Shiatsu uses fingers, palms, elbows and knees to apply pressure to the body. Barefoot Shiatsu makes extensive use of feet to apply pressure.
Charley Kabenji has been practicing Barefoot Shiatsu in Southwest Ohio for over 30 years. His focus is on integrating body work with natural healthy living, and specific guidance on healthy eating.
While Barefoot Shiatsu and Macrobiotic Shiatsu remain the focus of his work, he has integrated aspects of Thai Massage and other techniques in his sessions.
Charley continues to grow and develop in new areas and provides some of the best shiatsu in the country, so we are very lucky to have him here at Leelaa Yoga!
